The Merit Systems Protection Board presented Senator Daniel K. Akaka with an honorary Theodore Roosevelt Award for his "dedicated service and lasting contributions to the Federal merit systems and Federal workforce."
Chairman Akaka held an Indian Affairs legislative field hearing in Honolulu on the Hawaiian Homeownership Opportunity Act attended by the entire Hawaii Congressional delegation and federal and local officials, scholars, and advocates.
