Internships
If you are interested in a summer internship in my Washington, D.C. office, please fill out the intern application and mail it to me, along with the requested documents, by March 15.
Description of Intern Program:
Who can be
considered?
Anyone can apply for
an internship. However, preference is given to Hawaii residents who have
completed their junior year in college.
What does an intern
do?
An intern's duties depend
on a number of variables: his or her special interests and skills, as
well as current office needs. Every effort is made to ensure that each
intern learns something about each part of the office. Although an intern
will do some legislative work, he or she must also be prepared to assist
in the support areas, such as filing, conducting tours of the Capitol
for Hawaii visitors, deliveries, etc.
Does an intern earn
academic credit?
Senator Akaka cannot
provide academic credit, but credit can usually be arranged through a
student's own college.
Does an intern receive
any income?
Senator Akaka tries
to provide a small stipend for each intern, but this will not cover all
of an intern's living expenses.
Is housing provided?
Senator Akaka is unable
to provide housing, but will provide interns with information on housing
facilities in the area. |
